KANWAL teenager Nathan Sawyer has completed an amazing hattrick at the Budo
Sports World Championships which were held on the Central Coast earlier this
month.
Sawyer, who trains at the ZenJitsuKai Academy at Kanwal, finished first in
the 14-17 years black belt division in:
Kata (a rehearsed series of martial arts moves);
Point sparring (non-contact fighting) and;
Viadal (Junior full contact with minimal rules, held for the first
time). |

He devastated his opponents throughout the rounds,
winning all his fights by submission (TKO).
During the preliminary rounds his opponents tried to get through his
defensive blocks but after every attack Sawyer responded by using his speed
and ability to move around the mat to land many kicks and punches.
He has contested many tournaments during the past six years and holds
numerous titles including: National Champion Sparring (Budo, 1998), State
Champion Kata (NAS 2001), State Champion Kata (Budo 2001) State Champion
Sparring (Budo 2001). |
